How To Deal With Disappointment
ORIGINS (SOURCES) OF DISAPPOINTMENT
Lesson 1
Connection
- Have you ever bought anything advertised? If it haven’t fulfilled your expectations, how would have felt about it?
Defintion
- Disappointment is the experience of unfulfilled hopes and expectations. It is the shift of emotions from considering what might have been to what exists in the present. It is the recognition of what you don’t have, didn’t get, or will never achieve whatever it is that you wanted.
Impacts
- SADNESSS
- Negative:Disappointment is the experience of sadness. This sadness is experienced when you recognize of what you don’t have, didn’t get, or will never achieve whatever it is that you wanted.
- Positive: The experience of sadness helps us to opportunities by giving us to consider the impact of your loss and the necessity of revisiting your objectives and strategies for the future.
- ANGER
- Negative:Disappointment is the experience of anger. It forces you to continue to idealized what cold have been while consciously denigrate it and hang onto it only
- Positive: The experience of anger helps to force you to admit that you did not get what you wished to have and it helps you to protest in anger to encounter disappointment.
- UNWORTHINESS/UNHAPPY
- Negative:Disappointment is the experience of unworthiness or unhappy. It makes you to think that you are unworthy as you believe that happiness will only happen to people who are worthy.
- Positive: The experience of unworthiness or unhappy may be self-defeating but it helps you to evaluate your progress toward the goal that is ideal for you.

1. First Origin/Source of Disappointment is Disobedience
- Ezekiel.6:9:9 Then in the nations where they have been carried captive, those who escape will remember me—how I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their detestable practices.

2. Second Origin/Source of Disappointment is Envy
- 1 Timothy 6:4:4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,
- 4. அவன் இறுமாப்புள்ளவனும், ஒன்றும் அறியாதவனும், தர்க்கங்களையும் வாக்குவாதங்களையும்பற்றி நோய்கொண்டவனுமாயிருக்கிறான்; அவைகளாலே பொறாமையும், சண்டையும், தூஷணங்களும், பொல்லாத சம்சயங்களுமுண்டாகி,
- 1 Peter.2:1-3:Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow [a]thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

3. Third Origin/Source of Disappointment is Impatience
- Romans.15:5-6:5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Saul replied, “When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Mikmash, 12 I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord’s favor.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.”13 “You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.

4. Fourth Origin/Source of Disappointment is Rebellion
- Hebrews.3:7-11:7 So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice,8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did.
- 7. ஆகையால், பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர் சொல்லுகிறபடியே: இன்று அவருடைய சத்தத்தைக் கேட்பீர்களாகில்,8. வனாந்தரத்திலே கோபமூட்டினபோதும், சோதனைநாளிலும் நடந்ததுபோல, உங்கள் இருதயங்களைக் கடினப்படுத்தாதிருங்கள்.9. அங்கே உங்கள் பிதாக்கள் என்னைச் சோதித்து, என்னைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்து, நாற்பது வருஷகாலம் என் கிரியைகளைக் கண்டார்கள்.

- Jeremiah 28:16:16 Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This very year you are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.”

5. Fifth Origin/Source of Disappointment is Forgotten/Ignored
- Proverbs.1:24-33:But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, 25 since you disregard all my advice. and do not accept my rebuke,
- 24. நான் கூப்பிட்டும், நீங்கள் கேட்கமாட்டோம் என்கிறீர்கள்; நான் என் கையை நீட்டியும் கவனிக்கிறவன் ஒருவனும் இல்லை.25. என் ஆலோசனையையெல்லாம் நீங்கள் தள்ளி, என் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை வெறுத்தீர்கள்.

- 23. ஆனாலும் பானபாத்திரக்காரரின் தலைவன் யோசேப்பை நினையாமல் அவனை மறந்துவிட்டான்.9. அப்பொழுது பானபாத்திரக்காரரின் தலைவன் பார்வோனை நோக்கி: நான் செய்த குற்றம் இன்றுதான் என் நினைவில் வந்தது.
6. Sixth Origin/Source of Disappointment is Distrust
- John.2:23-24:23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.[a] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people
- 23. பஸ்காபண்டிகையிலே அவர் எருசலேமிலிருக்கையில், அவர் செய்த அற்புதங்களை அநேகர் கண்டு, அவருடையநாமத்தில் விசுவாசம் வைத்தார்கள்.24. அப்படியிருந்தும், இயேசு எல்லாரையும் அறிந்திருந்தபடியால், அவர்களை நம்பி இணங்கவில்லை.
- Jeremiah.13:25:This is your lot, the portion I have decreed for you,” declares the Lord, “because you have forgotten m and trusted in false gods.

He mustered all his troops and encamped at Jahaz and fought with Israel.
- 19. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் எஸ்போனில் ஆளுகிற சீகோன் என்னும் எமோரியரின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: நாங்கள் உன் தேசத்து வழியாய் எங்கள் ஸ்தானத்திற்குக் கடந்துபோக இடங்கொடு என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார்கள்.20. சீகோன் இஸ்ரவேலரை நம்பாததினால், தன் எல்லையைக் கடந்துபோகிறதற்கு இடங்கொடாமல் தன் ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் கூட்டி, யாகாசிலே பாளயமிறங்கி, இஸ்ரவேலரோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்.

- When you were disappointed with God or others, what was the role of impatience in those experiences? How did impatience intensify your emotions in those situations?
