Lamed ל: Eternally Established Word
Psalm 119:89-96 (Part 12)
Rev. Dr. Devadosan Sugirtharaj
Introduction
When people think about the word of God, they often misunderstand it as merely the words of people. However, the truth is that the word of God is eternally established. Creation may falter, but God's word remains steadfast. The psalmist wrote about the connection between the faithful God and His word through his life experiences.
1. Faithful God and Settled God’s Word (Psalm 119:89-91).
The psalmist meditated on the unchanging nature of God's word, which is settled in heaven. This means that God's word does not alter based on human responses or opinions. It is secure, determined, sure, fixed, and immovable; it remains unchanged for eternity. He recognized this truth by reflecting on how God preserved His word through generations. The word of God, having created the world, proves to be more permanent and enduring than creation itself.
2. Faithful God and the Sustaining Power of God’s Word (Psalm 119:92-93).
The psalmist expressed joy in God's word, acknowledging that without his relationship with God and His word, he would struggle to sustain his affections. He recalled the life-giving power of God's word, which strengthened him through afflictions.
3. God’s Faithfulness and Securing God’s Word (Psalm 119:94-95).
Here, the psalmist affirms that his relationship with God is rooted in His word. Seeking God's precepts brought him deliverance. This relationship is based not on feelings or transient experiences, but on the firm foundation of God's word. Even as enemies sought his downfall, he remained steadfast by considering God's word at all times.
4. God’s Faithfulness and the Perfection of God’s Word (Psalm 119:96).
The psalmist recognized that the perfection inherent in God's word surpasses all that exists in creation. Nothing compares to the excellence of God’s word, as all that is worthy is found within it.
Conclusion
In times of affliction, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by pain and brokenness. However, by reading, studying, meditating, and applying the word of God, you can experience His faithfulness and the transformative power of His word.
