Psalm 65:11 – Part 2
‘You crown the year with your bounty”
In 1939, King George VI spoke live to offer a message of reassurance to his people. It was to be a landmark speech and was to have an important effect on the listening public as they were plunged into the uncertainty of war. He quoted from Minnie Haskins’ poem “The gate of the Year”.
“I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown!
And he replied, Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way “
David realizes that New Year will be a blessed year only when God crowns with his bounty. What kind of God is going to crown his year with bounty? He is a creator God (verse 6) ; He is a Saviour God ( verse 5b); God of awesome and righteous deeds( verse 5a);He is a powerful God ( verse 6a);God of authority over seas, waves and nations (verse 7); He is a God who cares for his creations (verse 9-10). Such awesome and mighty God of all creations is the one who is going to crown David’s year into bounty. Now that He is the God of all creations, having everything under his care and control, there is nothing impossible for him to do in David’s life. At His command, and at His will things will happen in David’s life. Every day of his year is under His care and control. At every step of the way , in the year, He will protect him and provide for him.
Are you unduly concerned about your New Year? You may not know what tomorrow holds for you, but you know who holds your tomorrow. It is Christ Jesus, our Lord. As King George VI quoted, “put your hand into the hand of God and that shall be better than light and safer than a known way”.
God bless you,
