Psalm 57:2- part 4
‘I CRY OUR TO GOD MOST HIGH”
C.S. Lewis once said, “ A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the Sun by scribbling the word, ‘ darkness’ on the walls of the cell”
Can a finite and grail man diminish God’s glory? The American Atheist, Robert Ingersoll, took out his watch to a street audience to demonstrate the non-existence of God. He said, “I will give God a chance to prove that he exists and is mighty. I challenge him to strike me within five minutes” at the end of five minutes he said, ‘see, there is no God. I am still very much alive”
Can a sinful and mortal man order God to display His power and majesty to satisfy man’s incurable ego? Robert Ingersoll not only failed to see who he is and also failed miserably to realize who God is!
David, when he was in a crisis situation in a hopeless cave, realizes God ‘s character revealed in his Name, EL ELYON” David cries out to God calling him by the name EL ELYON –THE MOST HIGH. El means God; Elyon means highest, most high. It conveys his power and his transcendence.
R.C.Sproul, explains: Transcendence means literally ‘to climb across’. It is defined as ‘exceeding the usual limits’ it means God is above and beyond us. He has absolute power over the world. The world has no power over him. It describes God in his consuming majesty and his exalted loftiness. He is infinite cut above everything else.
Why David is at this crisis point cries out God calling Him ‘EL ELYON? This name of God is used 28 times in the Old Testament. David calls out this name of God to strengthen his faith and his fortitude at this time of great crisis. He reminds himself that his circumstances are not in control of his life but his most high God, the El Elyon. This thought consoles his troubled heart, and his lonely soul. He could see in that Majestic Name-EL ELYON- God’s watchful eyes; protecting wings; Unfailing care and undying love.
Do you know this God of David- EL ELYON? When He is in charge of your life why you worry? Cry out like David and He will take care of you. God bless you. Pastor Lite
