PSALM 54:2
“HEAR MY PRAYER O, GOD”
Pastor H.B. Charles tells the following story about a woman who would always pray the same prayer every week in the church. The prayer was: “O, lord, thank you Jesus”. Sometimes children would laugh over her prayer.
Then one Sunday somebody asked her the reason for her repetition of the same prayer in the church every week. She said that she was combining two prayers that she knew. She went on to say , “We live in a bad neighborhood and some nights there are bullets flying and I have to grab my baby daughter and hide on the floor, at that time ,I cry,”O, lord”. But when I wake up in the morning and see we are okay I say,” Thank you Jesus”.
When I got to take my Baby to the bus stop and she gets on the bus and I do not know what is going to happen to her while she is away, I cry, “O Lord”. And then when 3:00 pm comes and the bus arrives and my baby is safe, I say “Thank you Jesus”. These are only two prayers I know and when I get to church I just put my two prayers together, “O Lord, Thank you Jesus”.
David realizes that God he worships is a God who hears and answers our prayers.
E.M. Bounds, the great servant of God who mastered the art of prayer, once said, “Public prayers are of little value unless they are founded on or followed by private praying”
How is your private prayer life? How much time do you spend for your private prayers? Examine yourselves. Any Christian who does not have a regular private prayer life will not be able to pray effectively in public.
David cries out, “Hear my prayer” that is, for him, prayer is a personal intimacy with his personal God. David believes that when he is in a crisis he has to go to my God with his problems. Others praying for me is no substitute for my own praying
Praying Christians are the need of the hour in our churches. As E.M. Bounds observed,” what the church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Spirit can use –men of prayer, men mighty in prayer”
Whatever is your situation draw near to the throne of Grace in prayer and He will be glad and willing to answer all your prayer in accordance with His will and pleasure. IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN
