, PSALM 51 PART 3.
Ted Turner the Media Mogul of America once said, “Do not go to church on Sundays to pray to an unknown being who has not shown in thousands of years to come and save you. You need to get off your knees and roll up your sleeves and save yourself”. Robert Ingersoll an American agnostic Lawyer once asserted, “Science is the only savior of the world. Civilization of the heart and the development of the brains will drive crime and want from the Society”
Now that David has come to a spiritual awakening about his hopeless and helpless condition because of his sin with Bathsheba, he begins to look for a solution to his sin problem. Where is his Remedy to be found? He knew the remedy is not in his, ‘self-salvation’ as Ted Turner advocated. Nor it can be found in ‘science’ as Robert Ingersoll recommended.
But prompted by the Holy Spirit, he found the only Remedy for all Man’s sin problem—God – in whose image he was created. David appeals to God’s mercy (v.1 a). He also appeals to God’s, “mercy, unfailing love, and compassion” (v.1). There is a wonderful spiritual lesson David, even in his moral crisis, teaches us: When you come to God with your moral failure do not present your flaw in your character first but appeal to God’s character first-His mercy, love and compassion. No sin can be too difficult for God’s mercy and love to solve. The blood of Christ can cleanse us from all our sins.
Come to Christ who is the only Savior given to mankind for Salvation. AMEN.
