Psalm 48 – Part 3 2/7/2016
V.14: ”He will be our guide even to the end”….
The luxury Steam Ship RMS Titanic met its catastrophic end in the North Atlantic, plunging two miles to the ocean floor after side wiping an iceberg during its maiden voyage on April 14, 1912 at 11.40 am. The engineer who designed the ship, was full of pride when he reiterated, not even God could sink this ship. We don’t need God’s protection. We have built an unsinkable ship”. It was 882 ½ feet long; anchor weight 15 ½ tons with each chain link weighing 175 pounds; its double – bottom 5 feet thick; to insure additional safety, it had 9 decks.
When one of the first class passengers, John and Jacob Aster the wealthiest man, worth 150 million dollars, was asked at the beginning of the voyage, “Man, where is your life belt ? “, He replied, “I did not think I would need it”.
The Engineer, the passengers, the captain, the crew (898) would have thought, the Titanic would Guide them, and carry them safely to its part New York. But little did they realize that it was guiding them to its watery grave! The unsinkable Sank miserably killing more than 1500 people!
In Psalm 48:14 the psalmist affirms, this God, the great, Almighty and loving is my guide who will safely guide me to the end of my journey.
All the so called guides of this world, fallen and frail, would sink us into our hopelessness and helplessness. They are sinkable, only our God is our “Unsinkable ship who will lead us to our destined port. In Psalm 146:3 The Psalmist says “Do not put your trust is princes, in Human beings, who cannot save”-
Who is your guide, guiding your ship of life? Is it Christ or any other false gods or frail human being guiding your life? They can’t be leading you to the very end – because they are mortal beings.
Prayer: My loving father, you are my only guide, I put my thrust in, because you the only ‘unsinkable’ ship who can take me safely to my destined part.
In Jesus Name
Amen
