'For the God is our God for ever and ever he will be our guide even to the end'
Elizabeth Elliot telling two of adventurers who stopped to see her, all loaded with equipment for the rain forest east of the Andes. They did not want any advice, but seemed to be relying on just a few phrases to converse with the Indians. Elizabeth Observes, "Sometimes we come to God as the two adventurers came to me, full of confidence because they think they are well-equipped. But it does not occur to us that we are missing something very important". She goes on to say that we often ask God for too little we know what we need, a yes or no answer, Please to a simple question, or perhaps a road sign. Something quick and easy to point the way. “What we really ought to have is the guide himself. Maps, road signs, a few useful phrases are things, but infinitely better is someone who has been there before and knows the way”
(Elizabeth Elliot, “A slow and certain light”)

The Psalm 48 concludes with the Guidance of God. We all need guidance in this uncharted wilderness of our existence. The Psalmist talks about three truths of his guidance in our lives. They are:
1. The Powerful Guide.
2. The Personal Guide.
3. The Permanent Guide.

We will talk about the first point here:

1. The Powerful Guide: Psalmist begins the verse 18, “For this God is our God”- which God he is referring to? He is referring to Great God (V.1); Great King (V.2); the one who destroyed the enemies like ships of Tarshish (V.7); The Lord Almighty (V.8); God of unfailing love (v.0). This awesome God of power, might and love is going to be our guide. What more you need?

On the Christmas day of year 1939, during the world war, England was in trouble. Hitler invaded Poland. Next is going to be England. All panicked. The King George addressed the trembling nation and said these words from “The gate of the year” And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown. And he replied, “Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God that shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way”.

Are you at the crossroads of your confused life? Do as the previous quote says: put your hand and your faith into God’s hand –who is your unfailing guide. He will lead you to your destination He has in mind for you.

Prayer: Loving father, life is so complex and complicated that we really do not know which way to turn. But we, in simple faith hand our life into your hands to lead us on.
In Jesus Name
