Psalm 45:17
" I will perpetuate your memory through all generations , therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever"
V 1
1) who will perpetuate?
Psalmist say 'I will
The Bible teacher Don Wilton once talked about getting ready to serve on Billy Graham's team for a crusade in Korea. Dr . Wilton told about sitting on the platform one night during the invitation, right next to Billy. Dr. Wilton could not help notice that during invitation Billy started looking down at his finger nails. Dr. Wilton was getting a little huffy on the inside. But just then, Billy pointed to one of the Korean ladies who came forward to talk to the counselors and Billy said do you see that lady, she did my nails today and I was able to lead to Christ.
Chris Wright, the great theologian said in one of his sermons, "God's call is always missional and ethical . What hindered God's mission is not persecution or culture of the world but the disobedience of his own people.
Can you say along with the Psalmist, " I will proclaim - the Name of Christ?
2) what is perpetuated v 17:11 - your Name, your memory." In Acts 1:8, Christ said you will be my witness. This Psalm speaks about the majesty of the King(v.1) ; the excellence of his reputation is demonstrated by, the majesty of this person " you are the most excellent of men" (v.2), the mantle of his righteousness (v 4:-8) the equality of His Rule" your throne, O God will last forever and ever." (V.6)
These "memories" of God are to be perpetuated to all generations by the committed man of God.
(3) why His memory is to be perpetuated? V.17
"The Nations will praise you for ever and ever" - Though " He is the most excellent of men"(v.2), but He is more than man, He is God who reigns forever(v.6), people need Christ . The nations need Him.
Unfortunately Christ is taken to be an excellent man - ever walked the earth. He is not a human being, but He is God incarnate. C.S.Lewis' observation concludes my sermon. He said, "I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish things that people often say about Him, 'I am ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit on Him and kill Him as a demon. Or you can fall at his feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great Human teacher . He has not left that open to us. " He did not intend to."
Prayer: Our loving Father, we all need you, the memories of your infallible character is to propitiate to all the peoples. Make Lord, the instrument of your majesty and peace to this world. In Jesus Name, Amen.
